Dr. Candy Llewellyn

Principal

Dr. Candy Llewellyn is a seasoned educator with extensive experience in the field of education. She has been the principal of North Elementary School for the past two years. Prior to this role, she served as the Assistant Principal for one year and dedicated eight years as an English Language Arts (ELA) instructional specialist at the division level. Before coming to CHPS, Dr. Llewellyn spent a decade in education in Powhatan, beginning as an elementary teacher and later transitioning to a reading specialist role for six years. She holds an undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University, a master's degree from Longwood University, and a doctorate from Virginia Commonwealth University. Driven by the belief that every student can learn and grow, Dr. Llewellyn is committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, support, and academic achievement at North Elementary School.

Ashley Watkins

Assistant Principal

Mrs. Ashley Watkins was born in Hampton, but grew up in the Tri-City area of Virginia. After graduating as valedictorian from Petersburg High School in 2009, she was awarded a 4-year basketball and academic scholarship to Virginia State University and earned her Bachelor's degree in Special Education in 2013.
After graduation, she began her educational career as a Special Education Teacher at Colonial Heights Middle School and the Special Education Department Chair. Mrs. Watkins has also served as the Head Girls' Basketball Coach for CHMS and the Varsity Girls' Head Basketball Coach for CHHS. During her instructional career, she obtained a Master's degree in Education with an Administration and Supervision endorsement from Old Dominion University in 2019.

At North Elementary, our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every student can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our dedicated team of educators is committed to helping each child reach their full potential by fostering a love of learning and encouraging curiosity and creativity.

We believe that education is a partnership between school and home, and we value the role that families play in supporting their children's learning. Throughout the year, we encourage you to stay engaged with us through regular communication, school events, and opportunities to get involved. Together, we can ensure that every student has a successful and fulfilling school year.

This year, we have many exciting programs, activities, and initiatives planned to enrich our students' educational experiences. We are committed to providing a well-rounded education that not only focuses on academic achievement but also on the development of strong character and positive relationships.
